CNN news host Anderson Cooper asked Sen. Marco Rubio about electronic dance music and raves during the Republican presidential town hall meeting in Greenville, South Carolina, on Feb. 17 (video below).
"The other thing I found surprising about you is that you like EDM, electronic dance music," Cooper said to Rubio, notes Business Insider.
Rubio said he did like EDM, and Cooper asked, "Have you ever been to a rave?"
Rubio replied: "No, no, I’ve never been to a rave. No … It’s the Republican primary, Anderson."
Cooper said people who like EDM often go to raves, but Rubio replied:
"I think I’m a little too old to be going to a rave ... although I have the boots for it. Here's the thing about it, I actually grew up listening to 90s hip hop music, especially the West Coast stuff, and I really liked it.
"In the last few years what’s happened with EDM, you’ve got these electronic disc jockeys, or these DJs, who are taking electronic music and overlaying it with tracks from country music, and all sorts of things. So the lyrics are clean, the beats and music are fun."
During the town hall meeting, Rubio also took a shot at Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas: "I said he’s been lying because if you say something that isn’t true and you say it over and over again, and you know that it’s not true, there’s no other word for it."
