Rick Santorum: 'Is the President Competent to Do His Job?'

| by Emily Smith

Former Pennsylvania senator and Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum said Sunday that the Obamacare glitches have brought President Barack Obama’s competence into question.

Republicans have criticized Healthcare.gov since its inception and called it a reflection of the Obama administration’s inability to govern effectively.

“That's the question that people have,” Santorum said. “Is the president competent to do his job?"

Santorum also said that he had discussed the current issues with people in the insurance industry, noting that Obamacare only looked good at the most superficial level. He described the information received by insurance companies as “undecipherable.”

“People may be able to get on and get responses,” Santorum said, “but the information coming out the back end to the insurance companies is still garbage.”

Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean responded that he was impatient with Santorum and other Republican’s criticisms of the website, saying that he failed to see how the glitches reflected Obama’s competency.

While the Democrat agreed that Obamacare was not ideal, he dismissed the criticism as right-wing talking points, and pointed to Massachusetts’ health care reform as a model for success.

Dean predicted that in three months more people will be signed up for health insurance, and the uproar will quiet down.
