In a speaking engagement at a Catholic school benefit in New York Wednesday morning, Jeb Bush claimed he is “thinking about running for president.”
The statement, made in response to a question about the former Florida governor’s “immediate plans,” marks the first indication that a third Bush is considering a run for head of state.
According to Fox News, the benefit attendees followed Bush’s declaration with applause and a standing ovation. The benefit was held to raise funds for the Archdiocese of New York’s Catholic schools and was closed to the press, as Talking Points Memo notes.
The 2016 election is still relatively far off, but Bush’s statement means that a ballot featuring another Clinton and another Bush is a serious possibility. This may directly contradict Barbara Bush's statement that "we've had enough Bushes" in the white house.
Other potential GOP candidates such as Chris Christie, Rand Paul and Marco Rubio have been comparatively quiet regarding their respective entries to the race, although all are suspected to eventually announce the decision to run.
