Senator John McCain (R-AZ) defended President Obama against his fellow Republicans who are calling for the president to be impeached for the September 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya (video below).

“With all due respect, I think this is a serious issue,” McCain told ABC’s 'This Week' today. “I will even give the president the benefit of the doubt on some of these things. We need a select committee.”

“I think the Secretary of State [Clinton] has played a role in this…she had to have been in the loop in some way, but we don’t know for sure."

According to Mediaite.com, Sen. McCain criticized Clinton for her "who cares" response to Republican questions about the motivation of the terrorists behind the Benghazi attack.

“Her response before the foreign relations committee, ‘who cares,’ ‘who cares how this happened,’ in a rather emotional way…a lot of people care in respect to the Secretary of State,” said Sen. McCain.

Sen. McCain said that Clinton should be brought back for another hearing before a select committee.

The U.S. Constitution states that the "The President, Vice President, and all civil officers of the United States" may be impeached and removed only for "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."
