Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas claimed the Obama administration had betrayed Israel "by showing their enemies their nuclear program" during an interview on Ohio Christian University’s “Faith & Liberty” radio program.
Gohmert was also upset that the Obama administration had supposedly stopped Israel from bombing Iran (video below).
“But those are the kind of things that an enemy does ... An enemy within. There will be consequences for the betrayals of this administration. As the leaders of our country, and it is just a little scary the kind of betrayals there have been," Gohmert stated, noted RightWingWatch.org.
Gohmert was likely referring to the U.S. Department of Defense, which recently revealed a 1987 report that basically confirmed Israel has nuclear weapons, reported The Nation.
It has been publicly known, although not officially acknowledged, for decades that Israel has nuclear weapons.
The Atlantic wrote that former CIA Director Robert Gates mentioned Israel as a nuclear power during his 2006 Senate confirmation hearings for secretary of defense, and former President Jimmy Carter confirmed the same fact in 2008 and 2014.
The Atlantic added, "The policy of never publicly confirming what a scholar once called one of the world’s 'worst-kept secrets' dates from a political deal between the United States and Israel in the late 1960s."
Nate Jones, of the nonprofit National Security Archive, told The Center For Public Integrity in 2014, “We have a bunch of postings on our site (referring to Israel’s bombs) that were declassified officially through regular channels.”
