Chris Christie and PETA have their own unique little ways of turning things that aren’t news into news, so both landing in the headlines over a dead spider shouldn’t come as much of a shock to anyone.
This past Friday, Gov. Christie met with a bunch of Jersey school kids and noticed a spider on his desk. Naturally, because it’s a spider and because it was on his desk, he opted to swat it.
According to PETA, that was the wrong thing to do.
The organization released this statement shortly thereafter: "He probably did it without thinking,” said Ingrid Newkirk. “Some people put the spider outside, but spiders are often scary to people, and that can prevent them from pondering their worth."
Gov. Christie, for his part, was very proud of his huge accomplishment:
No word yet on how this massive story will influence the 2016 Presidential race. Yet.
