A California Congressman claims 10 ISIS extremists were caught by Border Patrol trying to sneak across the Mexican border and into Texas – and that more fighters are inevitably going to find their way into the United States.
Rep. Duncan Hunter told Fox News Channel’s Greta Van Susteren on Tuesday that militants from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria have been captured attempting to infiltrate Texas from the south. He says he became privy to this information through Border Patrol and that no one is talking about it.
“ISIS doesn’t have a navy, they don’t have an air force, they don’t have nuclear weapons,” Hunter said. “The only way that ISIS is going to harm Americans is by coming in through the southern border – which they already have.”
The Republican, who is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, said ISIS would bomb American cities after entering the country through Mexico and that the 1,989-mile border had to be secured immediately to prevent this from happening.
“If they catch five or ten of them, then you know there’s gonna be dozens more that did not get caught by the border control,” he said. “But that’s how you know: All you have to do is ask the border patrol.”
In a statement sent to the Daily Mail, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said there was no evidence to prove Hunter’s claim was accurate.
“We are aware of absolutely nothing credible to substantiate this claim,” A DHS spokesperson said. “In Mexico? I haven’t seen that at all.”
