Ben Carson: No Abortion For Victims of Rape, Incest (Video)

| by Michael Allen

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson does not believe abortion should be allowed for victims of rape or incest, but thinks there is “room to discuss” abortion if a woman's life is in danger (video below).

Carson made his comments on Oct. 25 during an interview on NBC News' "Meet The Press" where he called for overturning Roe v. Wade, notes RawStory.

Carson stated:

"In the ideal situation, the mother should not believe that the baby is her enemy, and should not be looking to terminate the baby.

"You know, things are set up in a such a way that the person in the world who has the greatest interest in protecting the baby is the mother.

"We’ve allowed the purveyors of division to make mothers think that baby is their enemy and they have a right to kill it. Can you see how perverted that line of thinking is?"

Carson provided no proof that women who have abortions think of the fetus as their "enemy," but did compare pro-choice women to slave owners.

Carson stated later in the interview:

"Rape and incest, I would not be in favor of killing a baby because the baby came about in that way. And all you have to do is go and look up the many stories of people who have led very useful lives who are the result of rape or incest."

The psychological damage that women go through as a result of rape can last for decades as post-traumatic stress syndrome, noted Pacific Standard. Victims of incest are often children, who also suffer decades of trauma, reported NBC News.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 32,000 pregnancies result from rape each year in the U.S. The highest rate of these types of pregnancies happen to women in abusive relationships.
