Derek Boogaard, who played 22 games for the New York Rangers this season and was known as one of the toughest fighters in the NHL, was found dead today in his apartment in Minneapolis. He was 28-years old.
Authorities say that no foul play was suspected.
One culprit could be the concussion that he suffered on Dec. 9th that took him a long time to recover from (OTR is ending sentences with a preposition now I see?). It took nearly three months before he could begin skating again and he wasn’t with the team for the playoffs.
No doubt questions will be raised about the link between his concussion and his death. If there is such a link, no doubt the NHL will take a hard look at its fighting policy.
