So much for straight-to-DVD flick Passion Play‘s hopes of being a sleeper hit.
The film’s lead, Mickey Rourke, who co-stars with Megan Fox and Bill Murray in the thriller about a down-on-his-luck trumpet player who falls for a real-life angel at a circus, thinks the movie sucks.
Speaking to New York magazine’s Vulture column, a characteristically blunt Rourke called the film “terrible.”
“Another terrible movie,” he said. “But, you know, in your career and all the movies you make, you’re going to make dozens of terrible ones.”
He also slated his 2010 thriller 13, co-starring 50 Cent. “A really bad movie…so bad it can’t get out,” he said.
Rourke also appears to have tamed his praise for Fox.
He enthused about his co-star last year:
“I didn’t know too much about her, except what I had read. And I think the pleasant surprise was this girl who’s a world-class beauty turned out to probably be the best young actress I’ve ever worked with. I don’t know if a lot of her films have showcased her acting ability more than, say, being action-oriented, but she really stepped up to the plate with this one and was very consistent and professional. At 23, I couldn’t do half of what she’s doing.”
Reminded by Vulture that he once called Fox “one of the best actresses of all time,” Rourke quipped: “That I worked with [smirk].”
What refreshing candor! No messing.
