A lightweight showdown between Jim miller and the former WEC lightweight champion Ben Henderson has been added to the UFC on Versus 5 card. A card that has been recently filling up, the latest addition could possibly serve as the night’s main event.
Jim Miller (20-2) is coming off an impressive third round TKO victory over Kamal Shalorus at UFC 128 in March. Riding a seven fight winning streak, Miller finds himself on the proverbial cusp of earning a lightweight title shot.
Unfortunately with the postponement of the lightweight championship bout between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard that picture has become even more congested and cloudy.
Ben Henderson (13-2) made a successful UFC debut at last month’s UFC 129 when he defeated Mark Bocek by unanimous decision. The Taekwondo Black Belt was 5-1 in the WEC before the merger with the UFC. His lone defeat in the WEC was against Anthony Pettis at the last WEC event, the defeat also lost him the lightweight belt.
With the current log jam at the top of the division a fight that has “number one contender elimination” bout writing all over it is just a “move one step up the long ladder” match.
UFC on Versus 5 takes place on August 14th at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
