Kara DioGuardi Reveals Date Rape, Molestation in New Memoir

| by

We all know Kara DioGuardi as a bubbly, sweet, successful woman in the music business. This former American Idol judge reveals a lot more about her life in her new memoir A Helluva High Note, which comes out on April 26.

E! Online reported that among other things, she was molested as a child and was date-raped by a well-known music producer. She reveals that she was repeatedly molested when she was eleven years old by a family friend’s son who was in his late teens.   She wrote, “One particular day, he took me into the back shed of his house and put his hands all over my breasts and vagina. I remember freezing and not knowing what to do.”

Unfortunately this did not stop there. Around the time DioGuardi’s career really started to take off she says that a “fairly known producer” date-raped her, after what she called was a friendly dinner. She repeatedly told him to stop, but didn’t try to fight him because she was too scared he would become violent. She kept this a secret because she thought revealing what happened could ruin her career.

A few years later she was sexually harassed by a “hugely successful artist”. On a three-day trip that was supposed to be for song writing she reveals, “the trips activities consisted of watching Russian porn” among other things. She still continued to work with the artist because she didn’t want to let this get in the way of her career. She eventually walked away when she was chased around his basement and he forced her hands on his privates.

She also reveals the reason why she left American Idol . She wanted to have children and felt like she couldn’t do so with Idol’s demanding schedule.

A Helluva High Note comes out on April 26. DioGuardi is also coming out with a new show, Platinum Hit, which premieres on Bravo on May 30.
