He’s either a die-hard optimist, or he knows something the rest of us don’t. Despite all the recent drama, Sir Ian McKellen says The Hobbit movies are still happening.
Director Guillermo del Toro bowed out of helming the prequel project earlier this month, saying it was “the hardest decision” he’s ever made. There were also rumblings that Sir Peter Jackson would step in to save the features.
And now McKellen has offered a glimmer of hope that The Hobbit could be a go.
“Hobbit” sets are ready, script ready and movie is casting this month. Fans are not to worry."
“The films will get made. I suspect we’ll start shooting at end of this year.”
Oh well, it’s something to hold on to at least.
Update: There’s also a rumour doing the rounds that David Yates (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I and Part II) has been offered the director’s chair for The Hobbit movies.
