Paula D'Amore delivered her baby in the parking lot of the Boca Raton Regional Hospital in Florida months ago, but is now getting a full delivery bill for $7,000 (video below).
"We drove up, my husband ran out, I said, 'She's crowning,' and her head came out," D'Amore told WPTV.
D’Amore’s husband delivered the baby until nurses came out of the hospital and assisted him in the parking lot.
"To me it was beautiful," D’Amore recalled. "It didn’t matter if it was in my house or in the car, in the hospital, it didn’t matter."
But D’Amore was stunned when she got billed for a full delivery.
"I mean like, yes, charge me, but not $7,000," D’Amore stated.
A Boca Raton Regional Hospital spokesman said the hospital had no comment.
D’Amore believes, "They are basically saying that everything was billed appropriately."
The new mother thought the hospital would adjust her bill, given the unusual circumstances.
"I knew that I was responsible for $5,000 [insurance deductible]," D’Amore said. "I get it, I'm going to pay the bill, that's not the issue, the issue is that I look at this delivery charge and I think that's a little outrageous."
The Boca Raton Regional Hospital boasts on its website that it is "listed as a Top-Ranked Regional Hospital and the Highest Ranked Hospital in Palm Beach County" by US News & World Report.
