A vine showing the stark contrast between healthy lungs and the lungs of smokers has gained some attention online this week.
More than 42 million people smoke in the United States, according to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Despite campaigns from numerous organizations against cigarettes, smoking was the top cause of preventable deaths in the nation in 2012.
The vine shows shots of two lungs taking in air and pumping it out. First, a healthy pair of lungs breathes, and then a lung stained black from cigarettes starts to expand and contract, but takes in a weaker breath, according to viralnova.com.
The vine was posted by user Devin Arbelo along with the hashtag #anatomy.
