Actress Mischa Barton was hospitalized after neighbors reportedly found her on her backyard fence screaming about the end of the world and her mother being a witch.
Officers responded to calls about a disturbance coming from Barton’s apartment in Hollywood after Barton, wearing just a shirt and tie, started screaming about various things and having what appeared to be a mental breakdown.
When police arrived, West Hollywood Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Duncan revealed that the actress was fully clothed and “speaking in coherent statements.”
Barton, known for her role on "The OC," was voluntarily transported to the hospital, People reported.
Not long after the incident, Barton took to Twitter and thanked fans for their well wishes on her 31st birthday -- which she’d celebrated days earlier.
“Thank you all for the birthday messages xoxo,” she wrote.
In 2009, Barton was hospitalized for a mental breakdown which included threats of suicide. She was restrained in a psych ward during the ordeal. She opened up to People about the incident.
“It was a full-on breakdown,” she said at the time. “It was terrifying. Straight out of Girl, Interrupted. Story of my life.”
During that breakdown, Barton was held for two weeks under a 5150, which allows a psychiatrist to keep a patient involuntarily if they are considered a danger to themselves or others. Britney Spears and Amanda Bynes were also held under 5150 codes.
“If they feel you are depressed or a danger to yourself they can hold you on a 5150. I am terrified of needles and they wanted to pump me full of drugs and I said, "No, absolutely not. I don't want to be here," and got into a fight with the nurses, and that led to my 5150,” Barton said of her experience, Daily Mail reported.
Barton also recently sued her mother for defrauding her and accused her of preventing the sale of the $7 million mansion they co-owned.
“Very sad. I do hope she gets all the help she deserves. Same as anyone else with an illness of the mind,” one Daily Mail reader commented.
“So sad, i hope she gets better. You could see that she had acting talent at an early age, when she was in what i think was her first movie, Lawndogs i believe. That movie was both sad and hilarious both at the same time,” another added.
