The makers of Sara Lee products and other brands of bread are recalling items from store shelves in 11 states after consumers found fragments of glass on the outside of the bread.
The voluntary recall began on Aug. 26 and was ordered by Bimbo Bakeries USA over worries that “fragments of glass caused by a broken light bulb at one of its bakeries” infiltrated specific bread products, CBS News reported.
According to a statement from Bimbo Bakeries USA, the recalled products affect those labeled Sara Lee, Nature’s Harvest, Great Value, L’Oven Fresh, Bimbo and Kroger. The products potentially affected have a “best by” expiration date from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1.
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia are the only states included in the recall.
The company issued a recall after “receiving three customer reports of small pieces of glass found on the outside of the bread.” So far, no injuries have been reported from the contaminated products.
If customers do find a contaminated product, they may return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.
