Texas man Chris Carroll’s kind heart has given a complete stranger a new lease on life. Carroll donated a kidney to Georgia father Raleigh Callaway this week despite having never met him.
Carroll became aware of Callaway’s need for a kidney after Callaway’s daughters created a viral social media campaign. The campaign, aptly titled “Our Daddy Needs A Kidney – Team Callaway”, reached thousands of people on Facebook.
When Carroll came across the campaign, he felt a tug on his heartstrings.
"I just knew,” Carroll said. “Even though there were thousands of people who called in. I just had a feeling that was going to happen.”
Carroll got tested to see if he’d be a compatible donor for Callaway. He was a perfect match.
The transplant took place on Thursday and was a complete success.
His wife, Kristi Callaway, shared the good news with their Facebook followers yesterday.
"We were waiting on a kidney ultrasound to confirm that CHRIS' KIDNEY LOOKS AND FUNCTIONS GREAT IN RALEIGH!!!,” she wrote. “We will be watching his creatinine levels which should steadily decrease. To God we give all the Glory!!!!! Chris is doing and looking wonderful, and I'm waiting to be able to set eyes on my Honey!!! Please continue to pray as these two special men recover!"
Carroll says helping Raleigh and his family was only the right thing to do.
"We're supposed to love one another. We're supposed to sacrifice for one another," he said.
Callaway, meanwhile, is overcome with thankfulness.
"Just thanking God for allowing such a wonderful family to just come in to my life," he told USA Today.
