'It's Good For You': Mother Breast-Feeds 6-Year-Old Daughter

| by Sean Kelly

A mother from Byron Bay, Australia, regularly breast-feeds her 6-year-old daughter, and even does so on the playground at school if she wants to.

According to a new profile for Woman’s Day Magazine, 52-year-old Maha Al Musa never stopped breast-feeding her now 6-year-old daughter, Aminah, and has continually defended her decision despite criticism from those who deem it unorthodox.

When the magazine asked her if she enjoys her mother’s milk, Aminah replied confidently. It’s my favorite thing to do when I’m not at school. More kids should, because it’s good for you,” she said. “Sometimes it tastes like candy canes. It tastes like lots of different things.”

Al Musa says she will feed her daughter at any time of day if Aminah is hungry, though she normally feeds her before bed. Aminah said she enjoys “sleeping and sucking” so much she will probably continue to do so until she is at least 8 years old.

“Let child and mother choose what's best for them, their circumstance and family. If we are all choosing then we are all equal,” Al Musa wrote on Facebook, alongside a photo of her breast-feeding her daughter. “4-8 (years) is NORMAL age for self weaning.”
