Brazilian “Miss BumBum” contestant and TV host Andressa Urach is learning firsthand these days that more is not always better – especially when it comes to plastic surgery.
Urach, 27, has been in intensive care for over a month since fillers she got to enhance her thighs and buttocks began to rot her muscles. The trouble started in July when a synthetic gel she had injected into her thighs wasn’t received by her body.
"The hydrogel was not absorbed by my body and started to harm me,” she told Brazil’s R7. “Now I've discovered that the [filler] is sticking to my muscles and causing the tissue to rot.”
Urach checked into the Conceicao Hospital in late November with a severe septic infection and has remained in the hospital ever since. For a while, doctors feared Urach’s infection would take her life. At the least, they thought, she would lose her leg. Though those grave concerns no longer remain, she is still expected to be in the hospital a while as her wounds heal. Her mother summed up her progress in a recent publicized update.
“I would ask for prayers from friends and people who wish for the recovery of my daughter,” she wrote, according to MailOnline. “She's starting to walk, put her foot down and sit. After all this time lying down, she expected it would be painful. She has been taking morphine since entering the hospital, but now they are taking the drugs away from her gradually.
“As she had sepsis, healing will be slow, because it has to happen in a natural way so that it is not subject to a new infection. This takes time and she is assisted by doctors all the time. She has had no contact with anyone but the doctors and her mother.”
