Elderly Man Falls Into Outdoor Toilet Pit, Covered in Human Waste for Hour

| by Michael Allen

An unidentified elderly man fell five feet into a toilet pit filled with human waste before he was rescued more than an hour later at Carters Lake in northwest Georgia.

According to the Daily Mail, the man was standing on top of the toilet, instead of sitting on it, when he slipped and fell in on Saturday.

The toilet seats open to a hole where the human waste is treated and left to decompose.

Apparently, it took some time for the man's family to realize something was wrong before calling park officials.

Lisa Parker, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, says the man was trapped for about 70 minutes before help arrived.

"We’ve had these type of toilet facilities for 10 to 15 years, and he just mis-used the toilet, unfortunately," Parker told the Dalton Daily Citizen.

Parker said the man was "covered in mess and scraped up," and taken to the Murray Medical Center.
