A newly born baby boy with four arms and four legs has caused excitement in the streets of east India, where locals believe he is the reincarnation of a god.
The boy has been nicknamed God Boy by those who believe he shares a lineage with Hindu deities, since gods of the religion are often depicted with multiple limbs. People have traveled across the region to the city of Baruipur to get a glimpse of the child, who police have said is becoming more difficult to guard against the crowds.
“The crowds are going berserk and clamoring to see the child,” a police spokesperson, who called the newborn a freak child, said. “Hundreds are crying in the streets, hundreds of others are praying and setting up camp here.”
The spokesperson added that some have taken the baby’s arrival as a sign of the end of the world.
Medical experts reported that the boy’s birth defect was a result of an underdeveloped co-joined twin, a condition referred to as a parasitic twin. However, his family is overjoyed and has claimed he is the son of Brahma, the Hindu god of creation who’s often depicted with eight limbs.
“When he first came out we couldn’t believe it,” an unnamed relative said. “The nurses said he was badly deformed but I could see that this was a sign from God.”
The relative added that the boy is a miracle and called him God’s baby. The family member said that it's understandable why so many people are excited about him.
