According to multiple reports, former NBA star Lorenzen Wright has been found dead in a wooded area of Hacks Cross and Winchester Road in Memphis. The body was reportedly found with bullet wounds, however, police have not yet said how many total. Some individuals close to the family had said that Wright was going through financial difficulties, and as such, suicide has not yet been ruled out.
Wright’s mother filed a missing person’s report with Collierville police on Thursday, July 22 after he failed to show up to a family gathering over the weekend.
Wright played two seasons at the University of Memphis before electing to declarefor the NBA Draft. He was the seventh overall draft pick to the Los Angeles Clippers in 1996. Throughout the course of his career, Wright played for four teams including the Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings and Cleveland Cavaliers. His career spanned 13 years, and he ended up finishing with averages of 8.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game over the course of his career.
The former star’s father, Herb, played professional basketball in Finland.
Wright is survived by his six children.
