Eva Mendes says marriage is not for her. In fact, she finds it “very unsexy.”
Mendes, 37, recently appeared on Chelsea Lately and explained why marriage is not her thing.
“I’m not like anti-marriage or the institution, like for other people,” she told Chelsea Handler, according to UsMagazine.
“And I love the idea of a union – that’s all very beautiful. But I think, you know, it’s a very old fashioned, archaic kind of thing. We did it for land originally. How romantic is that?”
To which Handler replied, “Well actually, if we were doing it for land now, I’d probably be more interested.”
Mendes continued, “I actually think it’s really sexy to be with someone in your fifties and sixties and be like, ‘That’s my boyfriend’.”
“I think husband and wife is just… very unsexy.”
And it looks like it is something Mendes will never subscribe to, even though she has been with Peruvian filmmaker George Augusto since 2002.
“Well no, because, it’s not personal, it’s just the institution… Why? If you love someone and you have a spiritual union, I just personally don’t think [I need] a piece of paper because society tells me [is necessary].”
She does have a point, but what about that childhood fantasy of finding your Prince Charming and getting married in a beautiful white gown? That does sound very Disney…
No surprises that the Hitch actress is no fan of “all the wedding shows” either.
“It’s just so over the top, it’s so not about what it should be about.”
