The 2011 Emmy Awards may be over and done with for another year, however, there were far more winners than not-so-winners gracing the red carpet that left heads turning. (Now that's what I call red carpet fashion!) Be it sleek and silver or bright and bold, Hollywood's leading ladies gave new meaning to, "this is how it's done" as they gathered at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles last night to celebrate the finest in television.
Known for her role as the saucy wife on Modern Family, Sofia Vergara will probably now be more famous for leaving her co-presenter Rob Lowe speechless in this heading turning (or should I say neck whip-lashing), radiant coral Vera Wang gown and emerald earrings.
No Hollywood awards show is complete without the drama of crimson as Glee's Lea Michele, 25 and Vampire Diaries' leading lady Nina Dobrev, 22 prove that you can still be a sizzling red hot standout on the red carpet. If covered shoulders are making a comeback, then Lea Michele begs us for wanting more in this radiant gorgeous Marchesa gown capped with rosette shoulders with Roger Vivier pumps. I'm having a proud-to-be-Canadian moment as our very own Nina Dobrev saunters down the red carpet in a stunning strapless gown by Donna Karan Resort 2012, complete with Brian Atwood shoes, Neil Lane jewels and Judith Leiber clutch. (Now that's what I call retail therapy.) Don't you think she's come a long way from her Degrassi High days?
One of last night`s hits was the arrival of Kelly Osbourne, 26, in this deep burgundy J Mendel gown. My sources tell me that she was an early arrival and, quite frankly, who can blame her when you look this good! The burgundy colour is absolutely stunning against her pale skin and blonde hair. The dress was a perfect choice for her. (And who said being fashionably late is cool?) When you look this great, the rest can wait!
And if bright and bold aren't in your fashion repertoire, Mad Men's lead actress, Elisabeth Moss, shows she is no drama queen as she strikes a pose in a stunning Marchesa blush gown featuring delicate, subtle and sheer embroidered sleeves. Mad Men`s best supporting actress nominee, Christina Hendricks, didn`t disappoint as she proves that you can be fair and still look great in this body hugging champagne colour, embroidered Johanna Johnson frock accessorized with Judith Leiber clutch, Christian Louboutin shoes and Palladium jewels. And rounding out our more subtle choices is Dexter star Julia Stiles who looks stunning in pale lavender Georges Hobeika Couture with Kotur clutch and Rahaminov Diamond for Forevermark gems.
No red carpet staple has withstood the test of time like the long, sleek black dress has. Emily Blunt is elegant in a v-neck, tulle-embellished Elie Saab gown with Brian Atwood shoes. Glee bad-girl Naya Riviera is anything but bad as she shows off her sophisticated side in this elegant black gown with smoky eyes, nude lipstick and chic bouffant up 'do. And Evan Rachel Wood stands her own in a beaded Elie Saab gown with flowing train with a low cut back accessorised with Fred Leighton jewellery, Judith Leiber clutch, and Salvatore Ferragamo pumps.
There were just a couple of disappointments last night. Julianne Hough, sorry, girl. This just wasn't your night, and if I may borrow the words of Canadian fashion icon, Jeanne Becker, that was "one bad home‑ec project". As for Minka Kelly, you are one of the hottest women in Hollywood!! Sorry, that dress was just too mother of the bride. (Time to fire that stylist.)
My top-pick of the night: Nina Dobrev.
