Actress Hilary Swank recently attended a party for Chechen President Ramzan Kaydrov and is paying some consequences for it.
Kaydrov is an alleged human rights violator and Swank’s PR firm, 42West, is apparently unhappy about her decision to attend his party. A source close to 42West confirmed to E! News that they decided to drop Swank from their firm.
According to Entertainment Weekly Swank and 42West parted ways due to a disagreement on how to deal with the backlash from her attending the event. Swank said in a statement:
“I deeply regret attending this event, which has thrown into question my long and deeply held commitment to the protection of human rights. I would never intentionally do anything that raised doubts about such commitment. I will continue to donate my time and my financial resources not only to the charities with which I am currently affiliated, but also those dedicated to the preservation of human rights. If I had a full understanding of what this event was apparently intended to be, I would never have gone.”
