DSK Accuser Sues NY Post: Called Her "Hooker"

The hotel maid who accused Dominique Strauss-Kahn of sexually assaulting her has sued the New York Post for running front page headlines declaring that she is a "hooker."

According to a report from the Post's arch rival, the New York Daily News, lawyers for the woman filed the suit on Tuesday. The defamation suit says:

"All of these statements are false, have subjected the plaintiff to humiliation, scorn and ridicule throughout the world by falsely portraying her as a prostitute."

Over the weekend the Post ran two stories that claimed the encounter between Strauss-Kahn and the hotel maid was supposed to be for money, but when Strauss-Kahn refused to pay, the woman got angry and cried rape.

A spokeswoman for the Post told the News that the newspaper stands behind its reporting. Five Post reporters were also named in the suit.

The lawsuit comes on the same day that a French journalist formally filed an attempted rape allegation against Strauss-Kahn. Tristane Banon claims Strauss-Kahn groped her during a 2003 interview.

Also today, several reports said the New York charges are likely to be dropped during the next hearing on July 18. Last Friday Strauss-Kahn was released from house arrest after questions were raised about the accuser's credibility.
