Dana Slamp is a New York City based yoga teacher, with a background in acting, writing, and more!
Dana is the daughter of a preacher man the granddaughter of a missionary. This unique beginning led to a lifelong pursuit of the many ways to connect, to learn, to express, and to dwell in one’s true nature.
Slamp first fell in love with yoga while completing her M.F.A at American Conservatory Theatre. Her career took her many places – including acting on Broadway, a production of her own award-winning play, and a stint working with Arthur Miller on one of his final plays. Gradually, though, it all seemed of minimal value without a connection to others and to a higher love – a love expressed in sanskrit as prema.
So Dana earned her teaching certification from Sonic Yoga in the theatre district of New York. Later, she completed Prenatal Teacher Training with Gurmukh at Golden Bridge Yoga, as well as her 300 hour certification with Dana Flynn at Laughing Lotus. She’s very grateful to these and her many teachers, including Dharma Mittra.
Dana is now a senior teacher at Pure Yoga, which was named “Best Instructors in the U.S” by Fitness Magazine and “Best Yoga” by New York Magazine in 2009 and 2010. She served as Managing Teacher at Pure West from January 2010 to March 2011 and has contributed to several teacher training programs at Pure and elsewhere.
Dana has written for numerous national publications and was featured on CBS News for her yoga classes that incorporate original music, as well as on ABC News for her acclaimed course, Yoga For Runners. She leads kirtans with her band Parampal.
Dana’s adventurous Prema Vinyasa classes encourage moving from your center, overcoming fear, and the courage to love oneself. She wishes for her students to experience their truth in their way – be it vigorous physical practice, philosophical study, music, restorative yoga, or meditation.
She is humbled to be presenting at the New York Yoga Journal Conference in 2011 as well as in many beautiful studios nationwide.
