The Duggar family, which stars on the TLC reality show, "19 Kids and Counting," is often in the middle of controversy when it comes to gay rights.

Now, the conservative Christian clan has stirred up online outrage after posting a picture of 16-year-old Jedidiah holding a 12-gauge shotgun that he got for Christmas on the family Facebook page.

According to some of the Facebook commenters wrote:

“Worst present ever. I don’t care how much gun safety they teach their kids. All it takes is one time of not locking it up properly for one of the dozens of curious young kids in that house to get a hold of it and have an accident.”

“Don’t understand why a Christian family who values life would want to own devices that were specifically designed to destroy it.”

“How can they give their child a gun yet cannot allow people to be who they are. Guns are meant to kill.”

However, some pro-gun folks defended the lethal present. noted that a few of those commenters wrote:

“Haha, nothing says Merry Xmas like a clean shot to a beating heart!”

“Great picture. Not only can you enjoy shooting you can scare gun paranoid liberals at the same time. A win win.”

“Gun safty (sic) starts in the home with a few added hunter safty courses (sic). Also, with good, solid, Godly and biblical practices. Our children will learn to respect both. That’s what is wrong with our Nation. Trying to do away with Freedom of religion and the right to bare arms (sic).”

The Duggars live in Arkansas where state law allows kids under 18 to use a gun with the consent of their parent or guardian.

In 2011, Jim Bob Duggar, the family patriarch, defended guns when his other son, John David, was photographed holding a rifle.

“That is one of our constitutional rights,” Jim Bob told at the time.
