On Thursday’s 450th episode of “American Idol,” the Top 8 became the Top 7.
The remaining males — Devin Velez, Burnell Taylor and Lazaro Arbos – were revealed to be in the Bottom Three based on viewers’ votes.
Velez was later revealed to be the one in jeopardy, and had a chance to sing for the judges’ save.
Mariah Carey was in tears as she intently watched the bilingual performance, while the rest of the judges discussed what they should do.
But with the panel unable to come to an unanimous agreement, Velez was eliminated.
Both Carey and Keith Urban seemed unhappy with the decision, which was delivered by Randy Jackson as the audience chanted “Save! Save! Save!”
Even host Ryan Seacrest seemed surprised by the decision.
And Carey tweeted after the show, “Ugh. In tears. Devin is a potential superstar, I can’t handle it.”
