For weeks, the rumor mill has been rife with reports that singer Alicia Keys is pregnant. Now it's finally been confirmed. Keyes' rep has told People Magazine that Keys is "expecting a baby" with her boyfriend of several years, rapper and music producer Swizz Beatz. The couple "are engaged to be married in a private ceremony later this year," Keys' rep also said.
This will be the first child for Keys, 29, and Beatz, 31. Beatz, whose real name is Kasseem Dean, has two children from previous relationships. He and his previous wife, singer Mashonda, filed for divorce in February 2009, amid reports that he was already seeing Keys before the marriage ended. Mashonda wrote Keys an open letter in September 2009, saying "You know the role you played, and you know how you contributed to the ending of my marriage." Beatz and Mashonda have a three-year-old son, Kasseem Jr., together. Beatz also has a nine-year-old son, Prince Nasir.
Keys, born Alicia Augello Cook, found success with her album Songs in A Minor, which debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard 200 in June 2001, and spawned the smash hit "Fallin'." Her latest hit is "New York State of Mind," with Jay-Z. Swizz Beatz has produced songs for artists including Beyonce, Gwen Stefani, Snoop Dogg, Whitney Houston and Nas.
