We are so excited to be a part of this year’s Burlington Yoga Conference taking place April 30th – May 1st in beautiful Burlington, Vermont!
Whether you are a first time student or an expert there’s something here for you at this year’s Burlington Yoga Conference! BYC offers sound and diverse teachings to inform, deepen, and inspire personal practice and promote a sense of oneness in the yoga community and in the world. The 3rd annual Burlington Yoga Conference, which brings together more than 25 top yoga instructors and 300+ guests, will explore the ways in which yoga practice can lead to health, wellness, and an overall sense of wellbeing. Dean of Kripalu School of Yoga, Devarshi Steven Hartman, will lead opening ceremony and lecture on the ancient yogic texts as a means to modern understanding. Other teachers include Green Mountain School of Yoga founder Prem Prakash, author of Freedom in Your Relationship of Food, Myra Lewin, Sherry Ryan, founder of Providence Healing Arts, and founder of YogaDance, Megha Nancy Buttenheim.
Burlington Yoga Conference has teamed up with the Sacred Sound Series, (produced by the Vermont Yoga Festival founder, Jen Cherkasov), a service oriented organization to provide guests of the conference with an intimate kirtan with Dave Stringer and the opportunity to practice seva, “service.” In addition to Sacred Sound Series supporting BYC with the service aspect, Burlington Yoga Conference will be donating proceeds from a silent auction to local children’s organizations and offering free yoga classes in the community.
“Burlington Yoga Conference is created so that students feel a sense of connection to themselves, the yoga community, and the world,” said Jane Jarecki Lanza, who cocreates and produces Burlington Yoga Conference and the Liberate Music And Yoga Festival with her husband Ben Lanza. “We are here to present sound and sacred teachings so that yoga can inspire individuals and ignite positive world change.”
Why Burlington, VT?
Nestled in the Champlain valley between the majestic Adirondacks and Green Mountains, Burlington is one of the most progressive and beautiful cities in the United States today. With a dozen independently operated Yoga studios and wellness centers in the greater community- it is no surprise that Burlington was recently voted the “Healthiest City in the United States” by CNN.
This small city of around 40,000 year round residents is one of the most visually stunning areas on the east coast. Burlington’s natural beauty and diverse landscape also makes it an ideal retreat location- with nearly limitless options for yoga practice, hiking, climbing, kayaking, and more.
With the expansive variety of parks and recreational areas within walking distance from downtown, Burlington is also one of America’s “Greenest Cities”. More than one-third of all energy used in Burlington comes from renewable resources and Burlington’s entire fleet of CCTA buses began running on biodiesel in the spring of 2007. The use of pesticides is also prohibited in all public parks, land and waterways. So breathe deeply and enjoy the clean mountain air!

An Evening of Kirtan with Dave Stringer | Saturday, 4/30 7pm
The call and response form of mantra chanting known as Kirtan is a consciousness-transforming practice, directing the singers to vanish into the song as drops merge into the ocean. The form is simple: a lead group calls out the melodies. The crowd responds, clapping and dancing as the rhythms of tablas, finger cymbals, harmonium, tamboura, electric bass, guitar and trumpet build and accelerate. The mantras are projected overhead, making them simple to follow. Yoga doesn’t ask us to believe; it asks us to inquire and to practice, examining our experience until we can witness the truth in the book of our own heart.
