The planned big screen reboot of the Buffy The Vampire Slayer series is really starting to ruffle feathers.
Actor Nicholas Brendon is the latest in a long line of former Buffy stars to condemn plans for a film remake of the 1992 hit TV show.
The film adaption of the show will see a new actress step into Sarah Michelle Gellar’s shoes and play the cheerleader-turned-vampire hunter.
Brendon, formerly Xander Harris on the show, spoke to E! News about his concerns.
He said, “I think it’s a mistake. They have to reach a whole completely new fanbase, and we already have that fanbase. So it’s going to really be hard to do that. But you know everyone – they remade The Flintstones. Twice, I think.”
Other former Buffy stars Alyson Hannigan, Michelle Trachtenberg and Anthony Head, as well as the creator Joss Whedon, have all spoken out against the new movie.
If the movie does go ahead, it will be hard to reach new fans. The old fans won’t want to see a new Gellar, while the new fans won’t have the background the original show provided. How exactly do they plan to meet in the middle?
Sorry guys, I’m with Brendon on this one.
What do you think?
