World's First Penis Transplant Results In Pregnancy

Professor Andre van der Merwe, a urologist at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, announced today that a 21-year-old man, who had the first penis transplant, has impregnated his girlfriend.

Van der Merwe told News24 that the pregnancy confirms that "the organ is functioning."

The soon-to-be dad originally lost his organ during a ceremonial circumcision gone wrong three years ago, noted The Washington Post.

The man had the nine-hour transplant surgery in December 2014 at Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa.

He is still under medical observation as his doctors plan to make future improvements to his penis, which could happen in August.
