Danny and Shawna Lowe were rushing to a hospital in Athens, Alabama, in the early morning hours of Feb. 7 when their speeding car was pulled over by Alabama State Trooper Mike Kesler (video below).
"She started grabbing the handle on the truck and I knew she was in pain and I knew she was getting closer, so I wanted to get there so I started to speed up a little bit more," Danny told WAAY.
"We saw the lights and I knew it was going to be bad from there," Shawna added.
While Kesler asked the couple about their speeding, Shawna went into labor.
"There was no time, it just happened in a matter of seconds," Shawna said.
"All I could think was grab his head and pull him out," Danny recalled.
Kesler helped by cleaning baby Barrett, and keeping Shawna and her newborn infant warm.
"[Kesler] was awesome," Danny told The Associated Press. "He settled me down."
Shawna was taken to the hospital by ambulance, and she and her husband got a warning for speeding.
"This was his official birth certificate because this gave us the time and in the details he wrote that I was speeding and the wife had a beautiful baby boy," Danny told WAAY.
"Trooper Kesler's actions today exemplify the mission the Alabama State Troopers -- to serve and protect," Alabama Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier said in a statement. "I want to personally commend Trooper Kesler for his swift actions and going above and beyond the call of duty."
