A family gathered to mourn the death of car washer Gilberto Araujo, but were shocked at the wake to discover that it was actually the body of another car washer, Genivaldo Santos Gama.
Even more stunning was the fact that Gilberto Araujo's brother Jose Marcos Araujo had earlier identified the body of Gama as being his "dead brother" Gilberto, who supposedly "died" on Sunday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Police said Jose Marcos Araujo took the body to his mother's Alagoinhas home where a wake was held on Tuesday, reports the Daily Mail.
Police inspector Roberto Lima said: "The two men closely resembled each other and both worked as car washers. A few hours before the Monday burial a friend of Gilberto's saw him walking down the street and told him that his family was mourning him. So he went to his mother's home to let everyone know he was very much alive."
When Gilberto Araujo showed up at his own wake, some people fainted, others screamed and a few actually ran away.
Gilberto Araujo's mother Marina Santana told local media: "I am overjoyed. What mother wouldn't be after being told that her son is dead and then sees him alive."
