Video: CNN's Anderson Cooper Slams Republicans for Blocking U.N. Children's Disability Treaty

CNN host Anderson Cooper slammed Senate Republicans who voted against a U.N. treaty protecting children with disabilities. Cooper reported on Sens. Roy Blunt (R-MO), Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) and Jerry Moran (R-KS) who backed away from ratifying the treaty because of pressure and false claims by conservatives.

Moran (R-KS) was actually a co-sponsor of the motion to ratify the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), but ended up opposing his own motion, reports

Numerous conservatives such as Rick Santorum and Focus on the Family falsely claimed that the treaty would have given the U.N. power to somehow take away decisions of parents of disabled children in America.

Cooper said: "And keeping them honest, they used arguments that just frankly did not square with the facts. They weren’t true... We can only guess their motivations, and frankly, some of this is just so baffling that we’d be taking wild guesses, and we just don’t want to do that."
