A social worker, who works at a Veteran's Administration hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, is in hot water after sending out a controversial email to the staff.
In one image, the elf is looking between the legs of a female doll, in another he is begging for Xanax, and in a third picture the elf has hung himself with Christmas lights.
Paul reportedly manages the Seamless Transition Integrated Care Clinic at the VA.
In response to the email, Paul issued a statement:
I would like to sincerely apologize for the email message and I take full responsibility for this poor judgment. I have put my heart and soul into my work with Veterans for many years. I hold all Veterans and military personnel in the highest regard and am deeply remorseful for any hurt this may have caused.
However, veterans groups such as the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, and the Indiana Department of the American Legion expressed dismay and anger.
A study released by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in 2014 found that ex-servicemen 24 and younger had a suicide rate of 79.1 per 100,000 during 2011, noted NBC News.
The overall suicide rate for veterans (of all ages) is 22 per day.
