While the nationwide debate over circumcision grows, Colorado has voted to cut off coverage for the procedure under Medicaid.
The issue is in the forefront because San Francisco residents will vote in November over whether to ban the procedure. Supporters of the ban say it is barbaric.
However Colorado lawmakers are not weighing in on the moral issue. This is a budget issue for them. The cut is part of a package to balance the state budget.
It goes into effect on July 1.
Jews and Muslims have uncharacteristically joined forces to fight the San Francisco ban. Both religions require circumcision, and they say a ban would violate their right to practice their respective religions.
