Theresa Camara Charged with Crime for Allowing Son, 3, to Pump Gas into Car

Theresa Camara was charged today with endangering the welfare of a child, after she allegedly allowed her 3-year-old son to pump gas into her car in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

According to TheSmokingGun.com, Camara was named in a misdemeanor criminal complaint filed in a District Court.

Police responded to a call on Jan. 19, 2012, at a Giant gas station “for a report of a toddler using the gas pump.”

Witness Gregory McCarter told police that he saw “a female instructing a very young child on how to pump gas into the vehicle.”

McCarter also saw the boy “pumping gas into the vehicle by himself" and claimed “the boy must have pulled the pump out before releasing the handle, because he ended up spraying gasoline onto himself.”

Police reviewed a surveillance video that confirmed Camara had allowed her toddler to pump gas by himself into a Toyota Rav4.

Police say the video “showed the toddler spraying himself with gasoline as he removed the pump” (which often happens to adults).

Camara and the boy left the gas station before police arrived around 9:15 p.m., but witnesses provided police with the vehicle’s license plate number.

Camara told police that she “allowed her son to help her in pumping gas and confirmed that he had sprayed gasoline onto both of them.”
