Taylor Momsen: "Young Girls Should Masturbate"

A recent Guardian interview with "Gossip Girl" star and Pretty Reckless singer Taylor Momsen has raised quite a few eyebrows for its mighty frisky subject matter.

First, Momsen -- a 17-year-old showbiz vet -- brushes off the fact that paparazzo shots of her "tampon string" made their way all over the Interweb.

Next, she discusses the fact that she was nude for her band's "Make Me Wanna Die" video, admitting with a chuckle, "It was held up in legal for a long time because I was 16 when we shot that." Yikes!

Finally, on the subject of female sexuality, she (wisely) recommends that all "young girls" learn how to satisfy themselves before giving themselves to guys: "I'm a promoter of masturbation. Don't sleep around -- learn yourself first! Guys do, but girls don't. And that's why girls have so many bad experiences. But you can know your body, know yourself, know what feels good. You don't have to give yourself away just to have sexual relevance. Because I don't think sex is something people should be afraid of. It's part of human nature, so I don't think it should be so shameful -- particularly for ... young girls."

Now, about the nudity and the hooha-baring skirts: The kid is 17, and that's the prime time in your life to do crazy rebellious things. But I wonder if these provocative moves will cloud the fact that she also has a major point when it comes to teen girls and their sexuality. Hey: The safest sex teens can have is with themselves!

As parents, how do you feel about her saying such things when young girls look up to her? Apropos, or "Oh GAWD no!"?
