Sen. Rand Paul's Son William Paul Arrested for Underage Drinking

William Paul, the son of Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, was arrested on Saturday at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

He was charged with disorderly conduct and underage consumption of alcohol, reports the Daily Mail.

Deputies from the Mecklenburh County Sheriff's Office took William Paul into custody and booked him. The 19 year old is scheduled to appear in court on January 8.

Moira Bagley, communications director for Senator Paul, released this following statement: "Senator Paul is a national public figure and subject to scrutiny in the public arena, however, as many parents with teenagers would understand, his family should be afforded the privacy and respect they deserve in a situation such as this."

Bagley did not elaborate on why a criminal arrest deserves "respect."

William Paul was traveling from Lexington, Kentucky to Charlotte on a U.S. Airways flight, where he may have drank alcohol.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer Blake Hollar said: "He was possibly served alcohol on the flight."

This arrest did not come at a good time. Senator Paul appeared on 'The Andrea Tantaros Show with Jason Mattera' over the weekend and said he might contemplate a run for the presidency in 2016 as his father Rep. Ron Paul did in 2012: "I haven't said no, and I haven't also said yes."
