Selena Gomez revealed she had a secret kidney transplant and that her donor was none other than her best friend.

The 25-year-old superstar took to Instagram to share a photo of her laying side by side in a hospital bed with her friend Francia Raisa, the Daily Mail reported. She captioned the photo with a heartfelt message, revealing that her best friend donated her kidney to help her in her fight against Lupus.

Gomez wrote:

I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made. Gomez has been very vocal about her battle with the autoimmune disease in the past. She first revealed she was battling Lupus in October 2015 during an interview with Billboard. The singer expressed her frustrations with people spreading rumors that she was struggling with addiction.

"I'm so f**king nice to everybody and everyone is so vile to me," Gomez continued. "I’ve been working since I was seven. I’ve been a UNICEF ambassador since I was 17. It’s so disappointing that I’ve become a tabloid story."

This time however, Gomez received thousands of messages of support from fans and social media users alike. Her Instagram post received nearly 2 million likes in just two hours.

"Amazing !!!! We need more friends like that. God Bless both!!!" wrote one Instagram user.
