School May Install 'Trash-Cams' in Cafeteria to Watch What Students Throw Away

In Tavares, Florida, Lake County School Board officials may start attaching cameras to school cafeteria trash cans to watch what students are throwing away.

The 'trash-cam' proposal came after school officials found that students tossed $75,000 worth of vegetables in the garbage, last year, reports

School Board member Todd Howard told "It's a big issue, and it's very hard to get our hands around it. They have to take [the vegetable], and then it ends up in the trash can, and that's a waste of taxpayer money.  It's also not giving students the nutrition that they need."

No decisions have been made on the trash-cams, but school officials say they wouldn't record students faces, just what they're throwing away.
