Robin Williams' Secret Trip to Visit a Dying Girl (Video)

As the world mourns the loss of Robin Williams, one family in Greensboro, N.C., has a very touching memory of the Oscar-winning actor.

In 2004, Williams and the Make-a-Wish foundation arranged for Jessica Cole, a child ill with cancer, to fly to California and meet the comedian.

"Robin Williams was her hero," Mark Cole, Jessica's father, told WFMY (video below). "In 2004, it became apparent that there was nothing doctors could do to reverse the process with the tumor growing."

Jessica became to ill to make the trip to Los Angeles.

"His office called and said he was coming the next day," added Mark. "She was a little disoriented at that point with extra fluid on her brain, it was out of place for her also seeing Robin Williams walk into our home. She was confused when he first came in. Then he started his Mrs. Doubtfire imitation and then she figured it out pretty quickly."

Mark recalled that Williams played cards and watched TV with his daughter for several hours until he was called away by the unexpected death of actor Christopher Reeve, a friend of Williams since the early 1970s.

Jessica died in December 2004, but her time with Williams was the "best day of her life" said Mark.

Today, Williams' widow Susan Schneider revealed how the actor was in the early stages of Parkinson's Disease.

According to ABC News, Schneider said in a statement, "Robin's sobriety was intact and he was brave as he struggled with his own battles of depression, anxiety as well as early stages of Parkinson's Disease, which he was not yet ready to share publicly. It is our hope in the wake of Robin’s tragic passing, that others will find the strength to seek the care and support they need to treat whatever battles they are facing so they may feel less afraid."

Actor Michael J. Fox, who has had Parkinson's Disease since 1991, tweeted:

Stunned to learn Robin had PD. Pretty sure his support for our Fdn predated his diagnosis. A true friend; I wish him peace.
