Rapper Heavy D Dies at Age 44

Heavy D, one of the most influential rappers of the 1990s, died on Tuesday in Los Angeles at age 44. reports that Heavy D, whose real name was Dwight Arrington Myers, had just returned home when he was climbing the stairs and had trouble breathing. Adam Mills, who was in the building and knew Heavy D, told the website that he found the rapper leaning against a railing and was "clearly in distress."

Mills said Heavy D told him, "I can't breathe, I can't breathe." He was conscious when an ambulance rushed him to a hospital, but he later died.

Police tell TMZ that there was no foul play involved and that the death was "medical." An "associate" of Heavy D's tells the site that the rapper had pneumonia.

Heavy D was the leader of "Heavy D & the Boyz," first gaining fame with the theme song to "In Living Color."

In recent years he concentrated more on TV and movie roles, appearing most recently in "Tower Heist" which was released this past weekend.
