Poll: Most Women Want Poem or Hug for Valentine's Day

According to a new survey by the British Heart Foundation (BHF), 90 percent of women want a hug on Valentine's Day, instead of costly presents.

The study found that 25 percent of women would like their man to give them a handwritten romantic poem.

And 25 percent said they would love a luxury trip abroad this Valentine's Day, reports the Daily Mail.

'This survey shows you don't have to spend large sums of money to woo your other half this Valentine's Day," said BHF Retail Director, Mike Taylor. "In fact, romantic gestures like writing a love note or even just a hug can make your partner's day."

The survey was part of the British Heart Foundation's annual Love Notes fundraising campaign.

According to the survey, one in ten guys believe that cooking dinner is the way to a woman's heart, while a similar number thought that expensive jewelry or a day of shopping was what women wanted for Valentine's Day.

Ten percent of men believe lingerie is the best gift, despite the fact that just one percent of women agree.

Five percent of men said that doing the housework is the most romantic gesture, while another two percent said that not watching sports all weekend was what their girl wanted.
