Alissa and Robbie Parker, Parents of 6-Year-Old Newtown Victim, Talk with Adam Lanza's Father

Parents of 6-year-old Emilie, one of the children who died during the Sandy Hook massacre, met with the shooter’s father in order to gain some closure.

Alissa and Robbie Parker met with Peter Lanza, shooter Adam Lanza’s father, to discuss Adam’s mental health, his and his ex-wife’s relationship with Adam, and other issues surrounding the mass killing. Alissa told “CBS This Morning” in an on-air interview Thursday morning that the meeting was her idea.

"I felt strongly that I needed to tell him something, and I needed to get that out of my system," she said. "I felt very motivated to do it, and then I felt really good about it and prayed about it. And it was something that I needed to do."

The Parkers did not divulge much about what was said in the discussion with Peter or when it occurred, but the rest of CBS’s interview with Alissa and Robbie will air on Friday, when more details about the meeting will be revealed.

Adam Lanza, 20, killed his mother Nancy Lanza on the morning of Dec. 14 before going over to Sandy Hook Elementary School, where he fatally shot 20 children and six adults with assault rifles. He then killed himself as police arrived on the scene.

Robbie Parker, Emilie’s dad, was one of the first parents to speak at a news conference the day after the horrific massacre.

"She was beautiful. She was blond. She was always smiling," he said, adding that the world was a better place because Emilie was in it. "I'm so blessed to be her dad,” he said at the Dec. 15 news conference, fighting back tears.

Peter Lanza divorced Nancy Lanza a few years before the shooting and released a statement in the days following the shooting that he, too, was asking why his son would commit such a crime.
