Online Petition to Stop Wal-Mart From Selling Genetically Modified Corn

Wal-Mart has agreed to carry genetically modified sweet corn, which is grown by the Monsanto corporation. Originally, Monsanto promised the corn would only be used for feeding livestock, but is now planning to sell it to humans via Wal-Mart.

The controversy surrounding the genetically modified sweet corn is that it contains Bt toxin, which protects the corn plant by destroying the stomachs of insects.

Monsanto, also makers of Agent Orange, claim that the Bt toxin will break down before humans consume it, but activists don't buy it.

Sumofus.org says that "rats fed with the GM corn showed organ failure, and the toxin has been detected in the bodies of pregnant women." Sumofus.org has created an online petition to pressure Wal-Mart not to carry the corn.
