Jeralean Talley, the oldest living person in America and the second oldest living person in the world, turned 115 on Friday, and as the Huffington Post reports, she has a lot of wisdom to share with the world.
Talley was born on May 23, 1899, and as it currently stands, she is the oldest living person in America. She was born Jeralean Kurtz in Montrose, Georgia but was married to her husband Alfred Talley from 1936 to 1988 and currently lives in Michigan.
In honor of her birthday, the Huffington Post has pointed out some of the many pearls of wisdom that Talley’s collected over the years.
“Mother Talley,” as she’s become known over the years, says the number one thing she has lived by is the “Golden Rule.”
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, that's my way of living,” said Talley last year. “I want to treat everybody the way I want to be treated. If I give you any advice that same advice comes back to me.”
Talley also lives an active life, apparently partaking in an annual fishing trip and occasionally going bowling. The 115-year-old is also a devoted church member, and although she doesn’t have much of an education, she says she tries to use the knowledge she’s gained over the years.
"I don't have much education,” said Talley, “but what little sense I got, I try to use it.”
Talley currently lives in Inkster, Michigan with her 76-year-old daughter. The 115-year-old also has a 14-month-old great-great-grandson that she loves to spend time with.
